On November 8th 2016, we lost a great friend and business colleague. At far too young an age, Shelley Hoffman succumbed to cancer. She handled her illness with grace and courage.
Shelley joined Explorer Software in 1998 in accounting. As Managing Director for Explorer Software, North America from 2007 to June 2014 Shelley was instrumental in defining and executing the company’s strategy and shaping its culture. During this time, she enjoyed much success, personally spearheading a number of initiatives which brought renewed focus to customer service and helped lead Explorer into a new era of growth and profitability.
Over the course of her career at Explorer, Shelley led the integration of multiple acquired companies, including Conac, Versyss, Ferrell, Trueline, ezDocs, Shafers, and Verstar. Shelley and played an instrumental role in introducing our RedskyIT employees in the UK to the Explorer family.
She had a quick wit, a genuine warmth and a complete lack of pretense—all characteristics that allowed Shelley to establish fast and lifelong connections.
Shelley served as a mentor to many young professionals entering the workforce. She fostered leadership and encouraged creativity. She took the time to know her team on a personal level, marking anniversaries, engagements, weddings and births.
Whatever role Shelley undertook, it was always with enthusiasm, applying her creativity to solve problems while mindful of the feelings of others. She always encouraged everyone to pull together as a team.
On the soccer field Shelley played goalie. The last defense. Very much her role in business, rallying the team, always the last defense.
Above all else, Shelley adored spending time with her family. She was the devoted mother of Lisa and grandmother of Gracie.
Shelley, we thank you for your enormous contribution to our companies. We will miss you more than we can say. We miss your smile, your inspiration, and your fearlessness.

At Explorer and beyond, Shelley led by example—with absolute integrity and honesty. She committed herself wholeheartedly to the organizations, institutions and individuals she touched, and we at Explorer benefited greatly from this dedication. She was often quietly, philanthropic, dedicating her time and her resources to many efforts, including the Cinderella Project. The Cinderella Project supports students who have overcome incredible financial, emotional and often physical obstacles to reach the achievement of high school graduation.
If you’d like to honor Shelley (but please, don’t feel obliged in any way) we know she would appreciate a donation to the Shelley Hoffman Cinderella Project Scholarship Fund that we’ve set up in her memory. We have started the fund with a donation of $10,000 and will match all donations made in Shelley’s name.
A true friend, a trusted colleague and an inspiring leader, Shelley embodied the spirit of Explorer Software. She is truly missed.
